Privacy Policy

1. Who we are and scope

The data controller for the Cover Story app and this website is Przemysław Bocer, an independent developer based in Poland ("we"). You can contact us about privacy at support@bytechimera.com.

Cover Story was developed under the working names Imposter and Suspect; this policy covers the same app under all of these names.

2. Data collection (in short: none)

• No account and no personal data collected: you never sign in, and we never receive your name, email address or any identifier.
• No servers of our own: the game has no backend. Everything you type stays on the device.
• No analytics, crash reporting or ads: the app contains no third-party analytics SDKs, no crash-reporting SDKs and no ad networks.
• No tracking: the app does not track you across apps or websites and does not use the advertising identifier.

Under Apple's App Store rules, data processed only on the device and never sent to us is not "collected." The app's App Privacy label therefore reads "Data Not Collected."

3. What the app stores on your device

To play, Cover Story saves the following only in your device's local app storage:

• Player names you type in for a round, and the round history shown in the Archive (the secret word, who was the spy, and how everyone voted).
• Your own word packs ("Your words"): pack names and the words you add, for example names of classmates or colleagues. Please add only words your group is comfortable with.
• Settings: language, discussion time, number of spies, sound and vibration preferences, and whether you have seen the tutorial.

Uninstalling Cover Story deletes all of this. If iCloud device backup is enabled, this data may be part of your encrypted device backup like any other app's data. That backup is controlled by you and managed by Apple; we have no access to it.

4. In-app purchases

Cover Story Premium is an auto-renewable yearly subscription sold through the App Store. Payment, billing and your Apple Account are handled entirely by Apple. The app asks Apple's StoreKit on your device whether your subscription is active; we do not receive your payment details or your Apple Account information. Apple's handling of purchase data is described in the Apple Privacy Policy.

You can manage or cancel the subscription at any time in the App Store account settings, or from the app's Settings screen.

5. Device permissions

Cover Story asks for no special permissions: no camera, microphone, contacts, photos or location. It plays short sounds and uses vibration (both can be switched off in Settings), and keeps the screen awake during a round so the timer stays visible.

6. This website

This website is a static site hosted on Cloudflare Pages, operated by Cloudflare, Inc. (United States). When you visit, Cloudflare processes technical request data such as your IP address, user agent and requested URL to deliver the pages and protect them against abuse. Cloudflare acts as our processor and may process this data outside the European Economic Area, including in the United States, under the standard contractual clauses in its data processing addendum. These pages set no cookies of their own and load no analytics or advertising scripts; Cloudflare may set a strictly necessary security cookie if its bot protection is active.

7. Your rights (GDPR and U.S. state privacy laws)

Laws such as the GDPR (EU/EEA) and the CCPA/CPRA (California) protect you even though we hold no copy of your game data. Because everything stays on your device, control is in your hands:

• Erasure: delete a word pack in the app (hold the pack, then Delete), or uninstall the app to remove everything, including the round history.
• No sale or sharing: we do not collect your data, so we never sell, rent or share it with anyone, including data brokers and ad networks.

If you are in the EU/EEA, you may lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (in Poland: the President of the Personal Data Protection Office, UODO). For any request or question, write to support@bytechimera.com.

8. Children

Cover Story has no accounts, no chat, no online play and no advertising, and it sends nothing to us. Some built-in premium categories are intended for adults (for example a party category that mentions alcohol). Parents can manage access with Apple's Screen Time and Ask to Buy.

9. Changes

We will update this policy if Cover Story's features or our legal obligations change. The current version is always published at this URL, identified by the "Last updated" date above.
