Common questions

What exactly is the protocol?

Three minutes at a brisk pace, three minutes at a slow pace, repeated five times — thirty minutes in total. The method comes from Interval Walking Training research at Shinshu University. The commonly cited target is four sessions a week.

How fast is "fast"?

The app uses your personal brisk-walking setting to guide cadence feedback. During a session it shows steps per minute, total steps, and heart rate when available. You can adjust your personal brisk-walking setting in Settings.

My heart rate is missing or stuck

Heart rate comes from Apple Health, using a source such as an Apple Watch. The iPhone itself does not measure your pulse, and reading updates depend on the source. In the Health app, tap your profile picture → Apps → ShinshuCore and enable heart rate. Also check that heart-rate reading is enabled in ShinshuCore’s settings. Without a connected source that writes heart rate, the app times intervals normally but leaves the heart rate field empty.

Why does the app ask for location?

Location is used to calculate walking distance during a workout and keep the session active while the screen is locked. Coordinates are processed on your iPhone and are not sent to us. You can decline location and still use the interval timer; background operation can be affected.

I don't hear the phase change

Phase cues use sound and haptics. Check the ringer switch, Focus modes, and that the app's notifications are allowed. A session also keeps running with the screen locked, and the current interval is visible in the Lock Screen Live Activity and Dynamic Island.

The workout didn't show up in Apple Health

Writing requires permission: in the Health app, tap your profile picture → Apps → ShinshuCore and allow Workouts. Also enable saving workouts in ShinshuCore’s settings. Sessions completed before permission was granted are not written retroactively.

Can I change the app's language?

Yes. The app ships in English, Polish, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese (Brazil) and Japanese, and follows your iPhone language by default. You can also pick a language inside the app's settings.

How do I export my workouts?

Open Settings and choose Export Data. After you have saved at least one session, you can share a CSV file with your chosen app or save it to Files. Only the recipient or destination you select receives it.

How do I delete my data?

Delete individual sessions in History, or remove the app to delete its local data. Entries already written to Apple Health must be removed in Health. Exported CSV files and existing device backups are managed separately at their destination. See Apple’s Health data guide.
