Privacy Policy

1. Who we are and scope

The data controller for the PaperGuard iOS app and this website is Przemysław Bocer, an independent developer based in Poland ("we"). You can contact us about privacy at support@bytechimera.com.

This policy explains how the PaperGuard iOS app and this website handle information. PaperGuard requires no account and operates no server or database that could receive your data. Because everything stays on your device, we cannot access, view, or retrieve your scanned documents or anything else you create in the app.

2. Data collection (in short: none)

• No personal data collected: no account, no login, no email address, no identifiers.
• No external servers: your documents, images, OCR text, and metadata are never uploaded anywhere.
• No analytics, ads, or tracking: no third-party analytics, crash-reporting, advertising, or tracking SDKs; no cookies or fingerprinting. PaperGuard will never show the App Tracking Transparency prompt because there is nothing to track.
• No cloud sync by the app: PaperGuard does not use CloudKit or iCloud sync to transmit your data.

Under Apple's App Store guidelines, data processed only locally on the device and never sent anywhere is not considered "collected." PaperGuard's App Privacy label therefore reads: "Data Not Collected."

3. On-device processing

All of PaperGuard's intelligence runs locally, using frameworks built into iOS:

• Scanning uses Apple's VisionKit and Core Image (edge detection, filters) on your device.
• Text recognition (OCR) uses Apple's Vision framework entirely on-device. No scanned content is sent to any external AI service, cloud processing system, or third-party server.
• Document intelligence — recognizing a document's type and pulling out amounts and dates — runs on-device with no cloud AI and no external language models.
• Annotations and signatures are drawn and stored locally (PencilKit).
• PDF export is generated on your device; you decide where each exported file goes and who receives it.

4. Device permissions

• Camera — requested solely to scan documents. Camera frames are processed on-device and never transmitted. You can revoke this at any time in iOS Settings.
• Face ID — used only to unlock the app's Vault. Biometric authentication is performed by iOS itself; PaperGuard never sees, stores, or has access to your biometric data, and you can always fall back to your device passcode.
• Photo library (add only) — requested only if you choose to save a scanned image to your Photos. PaperGuard can add the file you export; it does not read, browse, or index your photo library. If you import a photo of your signature, iOS’s system picker hands PaperGuard only that single image — the app never gains access to the rest of your library.

5. Search on your device (Spotlight)

So you can find documents from the iOS search screen, PaperGuard adds document titles to the on-device Spotlight index. This index is maintained by iOS on your device and is not shared with us or anyone else.

• Indexing of document text (OCR) is off by default and entirely opt-in.
• Even when text indexing is enabled, PaperGuard never indexes the content of identity cards or passports — these document types are always excluded, so numbers and personal details from them cannot surface in system-wide search.
• Turning the option off, deleting a document, or deleting the app removes the corresponding entries from the index.

6. Purchases and network use

PaperGuard offers an optional auto-renewable subscription (PaperGuard Pro), billed yearly (with a 7-day free trial) or monthly. All transactions are handled by Apple's App Store through the StoreKit framework:

• We never collect, process, or store your payment information or billing details.
• Purchase verification and entitlement checks happen on-device via StoreKit; Apple may provide us with aggregated, anonymized sales statistics that cannot identify you.
• You can manage or cancel the subscription at any time in iOS Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions.

These StoreKit requests are the only network communication the app performs. Scanning, OCR, organizing, annotating, and exporting all work fully offline.

7. Storage, retention, and deletion

All app data — documents, pages, OCR text, folders, tags, signatures, and settings — is stored locally using Apple's SwiftData framework and protected by your device's built-in encryption. In addition:

• Deleted documents move to Recently Deleted and are permanently removed after 30 days; you can also erase them immediately.
• Settings → Clear All Data permanently deletes everything the app stores, at once.
• Uninstalling PaperGuard removes all associated data from your device.

If you have iCloud device backup enabled, your PaperGuard data may be included in your encrypted device backup like any other app's data. That backup is controlled by you and managed by Apple under Apple's terms — we have no access to it.

8. This website

This website is a static site hosted on Cloudflare Pages, operated by Cloudflare, Inc. (United States). When you visit, Cloudflare processes technical request data such as your IP address, user agent, and requested URL in order to deliver the pages and secure them against attacks and abuse. Cloudflare acts as our processor for this hosting and may process the data outside the European Economic Area, including in the United States; those transfers are covered by the standard contractual clauses in Cloudflare's data processing addendum. The PaperGuard pages set no cookies of their own, load no analytics or advertising scripts, and use only the fonts already on your device; Cloudflare may set a strictly necessary security cookie if its bot protection is active.

9. Your rights (GDPR and U.S. state privacy laws)

Laws such as the GDPR (EU/EEA) and the CCPA/CPRA (California) and comparable U.S. state laws protect you regardless of where your data lives. Because PaperGuard keeps everything on your device and we hold no copy, control is entirely in your hands:

• Access and portability: your documents are on your device; you can export any of them as PDF or share the images at any time.
• Erasure: delete individual documents, use Clear All Data, or uninstall the app — each removes the data permanently from the only place it exists.
• No sale or sharing: we do not collect your data, so we never sell, rent, or share it with anyone — data brokers and ad networks included. There is nothing to opt out of.

If you are in the EU/EEA, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (in Poland: the President of the Personal Data Protection Office, UODO). For any rights request or question, write to support@bytechimera.com.

10. Children

PaperGuard is not directed to children under 13 (or the applicable age of digital consent in your country, up to 16 in the EU/EEA). Because the app collects no personal data from any user, it is inherently consistent with COPPA and comparable rules protecting minors: there are no accounts, no social features, and no advertising.

11. Changes

This policy may be updated when PaperGuard's features or legal obligations change. Updates will be published at this same URL, and the "Last updated" date above identifies the current version.
